The Ananda Learning Center A.C. (www.anandaoaxaca.com) is a social project that aims to bring the Montessori philosophy and methodology to a small community in the mountains of the southern Sierra in Oaxaca.

We have already concluded 5 academic years, there are currently 43 children whose ages go from 3 to 12. Our students come from different backgrounds. Most of them are of Zapotec origin. Another part come from a community of families from different parts of the country and the world that have settled in the village, sharing principles of permaculture and human development.

We are looking for a new member of the team with AMI training and experience in teaching upper elementary. Someone who speaks fluent Spanish as well as English (ideally). Someone who is willing to commit for a minimum of 3 school years (ideally) to guide the upper group, same as continuing the training of teachers from the local community. All the previously mentioned with the purpose of having an impact on the consolidation of the project.

We are looking for someone energetic, adaptable and compassionate. Someone who will be amazed by the children, the contact with multicultural people and human development. We acknowledge the power of passionate educators when it comes to unlocking the potential of children.

Functions of the position:
Create engaging and age-appropriate lessons taking into consideration the context we live in.
Establish classroom management using positive coaching.
Design and maintain an inspiring learning environment leading to optimal growth and development.
Encourage and assist in positive social interactions.
Monitor and keep accurate records of children’s progress and development.
Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.

Experience and Education:
Bachelor in Pedagogy, Education, related field or equivalent professional experience.
AMI Certified preferably.
Previous experience teaching in an Upper Elementary environment.

Life here is very simple and rustic, but also privileged:

We live in high mountains, the roads are steep, our climate is mild. It can be very rainy from June to October and cold at nights and early mornings from December to February. However, we also live surrounded by a beautiful forest of pine and oak, near a river. There are several leisure and free time activities related to human development, which are promoted by members of the international community; such as yoga, meditation, singing and women’s circles on full moons. There is also a variety of possibilities to learn bioconstruction and garden techniques, as well as the development of manual skills such as wool and natural textiles.

If you want to live surrounded by nature, if you enjoy a quiet life, pure air, clean water and connecting with people while helping to spread a much freer and more conscious education available to everyone, we will be pleased to meet you.

The vacancy begins on Monday, August 16. Annual calendar according to the official SEP calendar. Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 3pm plus 1 hour of planning at home.

We offer accommodation in a newly built house very close to the work space (100m from the school), all accommodation expenses are covered (water, electricity, gas, firewood, internet and maintenance), 1 meal a day on workdays and a good net monthly salary by Mexican standards.
